Playground Updates
Volunteers have been making repairs to some of the equipment at the Playground. We also now have a bench in front of the gate for people who may want to sit and rest, or for those with dogs, who must stay outside. Donations Returned in Error A glitch at our local Post Office resulted in several donation checks (and other mail) being returned to senders. We are sorry if your mail was affected! Postal employees have apologized for the error and have assured us it has been rectified and mail should reach us moving forward. The problem was not with FOBA’s PO box, which is in good standing. If you sent us a donation, or anything else, and had it returned, PLEASE try again. Our address is PO Box 4001, Menlo Park CA 94026-4001. To make donations easier we also have a PayPal link on our website at fobaneighbors.org/support.
EVENT THIS SUNDAY! -- Little Free Library Celebration Join us at the Playground for a Little Free Library installation and book donation celebration this Sunday, July 25, from 11 am - 1 pm. Bring any books you no longer want, or go home with some new ones. We look forward to seeing you! Children’s books are especially welcome at the playground. If you would like to donate books ahead of the event, let us know and a volunteer can arrange for a pick up. Or bring them by one of the Little Free Libraries at the Pocket Park or Playground. Long-time FOBA volunteer Keith built the two Little Free Libraries for our Playground and our Pocket Park. Mark and Marlayna have painted them. A team of volunteers will install them this week.

With the Spring weather and increasing numbers of people vaccinated and feeling safer, we hope you are enjoying our beautiful neighborhood and local parks.
Playground Updates The grassy area at the Playground is open for play! We now have additional signs posted to ask people to keep dogs away, especially from the grass. We have unfortunately found that dogs have been damaging the new lawn. Reminder: dogs are not allowed inside the playground. We thank everyone for respecting this to keep the play areas nice for everyone. We have more plans to rejuvenate the Playground. We will be making some minor repairs to the equipment, so look for notices about that. We are also selecting a painting contractor to re-stain the large green pergola. Avenues Newsletter Hopefully you received yours. If you think you may not be on the mailing list and would like to see it, you can find it on our website here. Looking For... All the trees FOBA has planted over the years sometimes need care. If you are—or know—a local arborist, we’d like to talk to you. Next FOBA meeting - Join us! Landscape Upgrade Projects
Playground The playground is getting a facelift! The neighbors’ response to our recent fundraising request has allowed us to put in fresh green sod where stickery weeds had taken over. We invite you to enjoy the grass starting in April. Thank you for your patience while the fence is up, letting the roots get established. Pocket Park The Pocket Park has a fresh image too. The formerly plastic and weed-covered area facing the street on Bay and 18th Avenues has now been replaced by landscaping with Harawn Muhly native grasses. Tree Committee Did you know that in the early days of FOBA, we planted over 400 trees in the neighborhood? Our tree-canopied streets are one reason people like living here. Now, a new group of FOBA neighbors is teaming up to replace some trees in empty chicanes (traffic calming devices), care for our existing trees, and plant even more trees in our area. Our FOBA Tree Committee is made up of tree-loving and tree-appreciating neighbors. If you would like to be a part of this effort, contact us at [email protected] with the subject line “TREES.” FOBA Welcomes New Board Members Several volunteers have recently joined our FOBA Board of Directors as voting members. Board members stay abreast of issues in the neighborhood and provide valuable ideas and decision-making. Next FOBA meeting - Join us! Our board meetings are open to all neighbors. We welcome visitors, and joining us is a good way to get connected with the community! The next meeting is Monday, April 12, from 7:30 - 9 PM. Email [email protected] to get a Zoom link. |
